New Hair Rescue Treatment

Keraplast Technologies launched a revolutionary Keratin hair treatment, Hair Rescue with Replicine Functional Keratin technology, at the high profile beauty event Cosmoprof North America in July 2011. Early adopter salons across the US are now starting to try this new treatment to dramatically repair damaged hair, rescue hair previously thought of as unrecoverable and enhance color as a pre-color treatment.

I tried the keratin treatment on my assistant as well as a couple of my clients who have dry hair, split ends etc. but my assistant was in dyer straits. her hair was fried from repeated bleaching and trying to grow it out with minimal to no trims. we were amazed at the results. The hair felt strong, silky and most of all had the shine back…Im curious to see the longevity of it in her hair but so far it was about 10 days ago and nothing has changed. still like a new head of hair. cant wait to try on myself…

Does Keraplast Hair Rescue work as well for African American hair and if so; where can I purchase it in Detroit, Michigan 48208.

    • Keratin Questions on

If African American hair has been damaged through chemical treatment such as straightening, color or heat then Hair Rescue is an excellent way to repair the hair from the inside out and bring back some of the properties it has lost. The treatment is for in-salon use and directions for how to use it can be found here http://www.keraplast.com/hair-rescue, as well as description of what it will do for hair.

  8. Sydni Sheff on

If i get keratin will i be able to curl my hair or put it up in a pony tail or up due.

    • Keratin Questions on

Hi sydni, this really depends on the keratin treatment used. There are so many it is hard to say. The more mild and less permanent ones are generally better for the styling options you describe.

Do you have a list of salons in the US who do your Keratin repair system?
I live in New York state but can travel and will be visiting the San Fransisco, California area later this month.
Does your repair process use heat?
Why does it have to be done in a salon?
    Thanks!

    • Keratin Questions on

Yes, Keraplast Hair Rescue with Replicine Functional Keratin does use heat. This is best done in a salon as it gives good control over the heat and ensures a long enough exposure. The heat helps ensure good penetration and in particular that the right amount of binding and rebuilding of hair structure can go on to ensure a strong and durable repair.

Got a keratin blow out done a week ago. When washed a couple of days later hair all dried out and looks burnt, how can this be treated now and what would have caused that to happen? Have had it done several times before and always beautiful after. Can it be repaired by doing it again or will that make it worse??

    • Keratin Questions on

It sounds like the temperature used in the treatment was too high and has damaged your hair. Keratin blowouts are usually intended to make you hair smooth or straight, and they are not effective at repairing damaged hair as they do not contain the right sort of keratin. Instead they contain chemicals that work inside each hair fiber to lock them straight. If done too many times that can damage the hair structure. To repair your hair, Hair Rescue with Replicine Functional Keratin is a specialist keratin treatment aimed at repair. Most keratin treatments use chemical agents to make your hair straight or smooth, and it sounds like that is not what you need to get your hair restored to how it used to feel. Here is a review of someone who has used a Replicine Functional Keratin treatment https://www.beautyheaven.com.au/hair/salon-treatments/35298-bhavetm-rescue

Depending on how it is processed- yes keratin from NZ wool is edible and safe. There are several products on the market available that include keratin from New Zealand wool. The Finest Nutrition line sold in in the American retailer Walgreens is one of them. There are also the Younger Secrets Marine Keratin and Collagen formula capsules that your link goes to. The following products include edible keratin from NZ sheep wool:

          – Dr. Susan Lark Hair & Nails Revitalizer
          – ResVitále™ Keratin Enhance
          – Futurebiotics Hair, Skin & Nails® Intense Therapy

          – Lorica Kera-Concept
          – Nasstassja Ultra NHS
          – Douglas Laboratories Ultra NHS

When processed in the correct way then keratin from New Zealand wool can provide significant benefits in hair, skin and nail health as well as for joint health. Here are some scientific publications that describe the benefits.

  21. Patricia on

Does this treatment have to be rinsed out thoroughly. I found the stylist had a hard time combing through my hair after using treatment. I think they did not rinse out thoroughly enough. If it is not rinsed out thoroughly can it damage hair, or will my hair just come out fine after my next wash.

    • Keratin Questions on

      Hi Patricia,
A Hair Rescue with Replicine™ Functional Keratin® treatment does have to be rinsed out thoroughly after the heat treatment process and it should then be lightly conditioned before the final rise and dry. If not, and as you have pointed out, the residual keratin can be sticky and can make your hair quite hard to comb. But don’t worry- just wash your hair again to take out the residual excess and your hair should be fine! There is nothing in the Hair Rescue Replicine™ Functional keratin® treatment that will damage your hair – though you don’t want to be combing it when it is so hard to pull a comb through as that will create some damage!

      • Donna on

        Hi…

I’ve gotten keratin hair straightening treatments for years. i’ve always loved the results, but this time it doesn’t look as good and needs to be done again after only a month or so instead of 3 months.

Does this Hair Rescue system straighten hair while it conditions it? And if so, where can I get it done in the Annapolis/Crofton Maryland area?

        Thank you!

        Donna

        • Keratin Questions on

          Hi Donna,
In response to your two questions:
Regarding straightening treatments: in earlier years a lot of straightening treatments used formaldehyde as the straightening agent. However we are all now much more aware of the risks of formaldehyde and the amounts that are allowed in straightening treatments have been reduced considerably. This is probably why your straightening treatment isn’t as effective as it used to be.

On your second question- will the Hair Rescue Treatment with Replicine™ Functional Keratin® straighten hair? The answer is no. Keratin does not straighten hair. The Keratin in straightening treatments has a protecting agent to minimize the damage to your hair. In the hair Rescue Treatment, the keratin levels are VERY high and it’s a highly effective hair repair treatment but not a straightener.

I am sorry to have to tell you that that there are no Replicine™ Functional Keratin® products being retailed in the EU market at this stage. Plans are underway to be able to release retail shampoo and conditioner with Replicine™ Functional Keratin® early in 2014 in the UK. • Sam on

Just to clarify…Do they have to say in ingredients that it is…keratin, oxidized keratin or hydrolyzed keratin? Or can they just say keratin but it can be the hydrolyzed one? Thanks mate…

        • Keratin Questions on

          Hi Sam,

The different sorts of Keratin are: “Keratin”, “Oxidized Keratin” and “Hydrolyzed Keratin”. All have effects on your hair and skin. The Hydrolyzed Keratin are small molecules that are able to penetrate both skin and hair well and draw moisture in with them to help condition your hair and skin. The “Keratin” available is an active form that is sold by Keraplast and has film forming properties. These are large molecules that can act as a sacrificial layer to protect and it has the ability to crosslink with your hair to help strengthen the fibers. It will also boost the glutathione levels in your skin- which are the cells own antioxidant protection system. The Oxidized Keratin is a medium sized molecule that has also been shown to provide strength to your hair. In addition within your skin, oxidized keratin can stimulate the production of Collagen IV and VII which are critical to the robustness of the epidermal dermal junction.

There are also a few Hydrolyzed Keratin derivatives on the market such as “Cocodimonium Hydroxypropyl Hydrolyzed Keratin” which is a Quaternised Hydrolyzed Keratin designed to boost the conditioning properties of the peptide.

Hydrolyzed Keratin and its derivatives are available from a number of suppliers but the other two forms of Keratin “Keratin” and “Oxidized Keratin” are unique to Keraplast through its proprietary manufacturing processes.

You might ask “what has something that I use on my hair got to do with my skin?”- but remember that your scalp is a key area of skin, and part of keeping hair healthy is ensuring that your scalp and hair follicles are healthy also!

  30. Nikky on

    Hi,
I have cold wave or care free curl in my hair , can i use keratin on it.
    Thanks.

    • Keratin Questions on

      Hi Nikky,

If you are wanting to have a Keratin-based hair rescue treatment such as Keraplast’s Hair Rescue Treatment with Replicine™ Functional Keratin® you can certainly use it on hair treated with a cold wave or care free curl.

However if you are wanting to have a hair straightening treatment you should ask the advice of your stylist. The different types of curling/straightening treatments are not all compatible with each other and your stylist will be able to recommend the type and strength of formulation that would best suit your hair.

When can you color your hair before or after the keratin treatment and how man y day’s before or after?

    • Keratin Questions on

      Hi Gail,

Your stylist is the person best to advise you on when you can color your hair if you are also considering having a Keratin Hair Straightening treatment. It will depend on the type of hair straightening system that is planned. For example with a Brazilian hair straightening, it is recommended that dyeing is carried out before the straightening or at least 2 weeks afterwards.

If you are considering getting a Hair Rescue Treatment with Replicine™ Functional Keratin® done, this can be done before coloring, after coloring, and some people even have it done while they are having their color treatment.

  35. Ron on

My hair looks very weak and dull. From the front it looks ok, but at the center part of my head, there are patches/gaps. It’s visible when you click with flash on. Worried about this part. Hair falls out from the center part only. I want my hair to look healthy and shiny as well to repair and re grow the hair in the center part. I’m 25, located in Dubai.
I’m thinking of Hair Keratin treatments. Inquired in some salons, they told it makes hair healthier, stronger n shiny, and each of them saying they have the best keratin than anyone else. I’m really confused, whom to trust and how to choose the best with no side effects cos i don’t want to lose my hair. They didn’t specify a particular brand. Seems like they have their own mix.
Please advise me for the same.

    • Keratin Questions on

      Hi Ron,
A doctor is the best person to advise you on what might be going on with your hair. It may be simply that you have a genetic based alopecia, or you may have something else that is impacting on your hair. Keratin is good for your hair but there are a lot of people promoting treatments containing “Hydrolyzed keratin” which are the separated peptides units that go together to make Keratin. While the hydrolyzed keratin is beneficial it has only a limited functionality and does not do a lot to strengthen your hair. A treatment that does contain the other forms of Keratin (“Keratin” and “Oxidized Keratin”) is the Awapuhi Wild Ginger Keratriplex which is available in most countries.

A Hair Rescue Treatment with Replicine™ Functional Keratin® will help with hair strength volume and shine. Unfortunately this treatment is not as yet available in Dubai. However Keraplast are in the process of working to set up a distributor for the UAE and neighboring countries, and all going well, the treatment should become available within the next few months. I have forwarded you email contact details onto Keraplast’s International Sales & Marketing Manager who will be able to put you in contact with the distributor in your country.

    Hi there

I would also like to know of the salons in London that offer the treatment please. Also will the Bhave leave in conditioner be effective on my hair that is currently in a braided style (without extensions). Will replicine help to combat the effect of chlorine from swimming?

    Thank you

    • Keratin Questions on

      Hi Michelle,

Keraplast will contact you directly regarding a stockiest in London for their products. BHAVE may also have outlets in London and you can ask them on their salon locator website: http://www.bhavehair.com/salon-locator.php

The Bhave leave-in conditioner will be effective on braided hair and will certainly help with the effect of swimming pool chlorine.

  42. Lisa on

i just got a perm and i want to keep it but it really burnt my hair can i still use keratin Rx reconstructor to repair the burnt hair?

    • Keratin Questions on

      Hi Lisa,
In general, you will get a better result from a professionally applied keratin hair repair treatment than from a treatment that you apply at home. Just because they have the equipment at the salon that allows the treatment to fully cure on your hair. I can’t comment on efficacy of the Keratin Complex as it is unclear from the label as to what sort of keratins it contains. However I note that it has received a number of positive reviews.

The concentrations of the “Oxidized Keratin” included in the Keraplast Hair Rescue Treatment with Replicine™ Functional Keratin® and the BHAVE Rescue allows for specific associated claims: ie
      • 80% less breakage
      • 52% stronger
      • 97% improvement in shine
      • 83% boost in color symmetry
      • 78% more natural looking color

The Keraplast Hair Rescue Treatment with Replicine™ Functional Keratin® is available in the USA. You can find it using their salon locater:
      http://www.keraplast.com/component/option,com_storelocator/Itemid,76/view,map/
BHAVE is mostly sold in Australia but they also have outlets in South Africa. You can ask them whether they are selling in your area on their facebook page:

  43. Melissa Welsh on

Hi, I am a professional hair stylist and would love to get this product into my salon. Where can i find this product ? I live in springfield pa

  44. Amy on

My hair was severely damaged following a formaldehyde-free straightening treatment. The treatment was administered by my stylist, who had applied this same treatment to many other clients, without issue. My damage includes dryness/straw like feel, all-over, extreme breakage, and areas of hair that look “singed.” Since this began (approximately 3-4 weeks ago), I have been going into the salon twice a week for protein treatments. These treatments have offered little to no visible results. I need help! Do you think this Hair Rescue might help me? Where can my stylist get it? I live in south Arkansas. Thanks!

  49. Elizabeth Bulaong on

After the bleaching hair damage can make the keratin treament?

    • Keratin Questions on

      Hi Elizabeth,
If you have damaged hair from having your hair bleached then a Keraplast Hair Rescue Treatment with Replicine™ Functional Keratin® can certainly help to add strength back to you hair. Be aware that having a Keratin Straightening treatment can add to the damage.

  50. Kathy on

Where in australia – sydney do they do this? Also can you get this treatment if you henna your hair?

  51. Donna on

On your second question- will the Hair Rescue Treatment with Replicine™ Functional Keratin® straighten hair. The answer is no. Keratin does not straighten hair. The Keratin in straightening treatments is there as a protecting agent to minimize the damage to your hair. In the Hair Rescue Treatment the keratin levels are VERY high and it’s a highly effective hair repair treatment but not a straightener.

  52. Gail on

I’m really excited to try the Keraplast Hair Rescue Treatment. I am an Afro- American woman with relaxed hair. It is usually shoulder length, strong and healthy. However, recently it has started a good deal of shedding/breakage and thinning which both my stylist and I believe are related to the frequent coloring we recently started to cover grays. We also recently switched from a relaxer to a texturizer ( on new growth only, of course) which I think may not have been a great idea – but too late now.

Anyway, could you please tell me some place in or around Connecticut that does this treatment?
Also, I see above that you recommend a line called BHAVE. Would it be correct to assume that anything applied at home – and not when the relaxer or texturizer is done – probably would not be as effective?

Thank you for any comments you can provide me.

  53. Briannah on

Where can I find Replicine ™ Functional Keratin® to repair damaged hair in Pittsburgh PA.?

  54. Helen on

Hi, I have naturally curly hair not Afro hair – what happens after the keratin treatment has been put on and you wash your hair in the normal way but do not blow dry your hair. Is the hair just relaxed? I don’t want to have to blow dry after every wash. A response would be great thank you

    • Keratin Questions on

      Hi Helen,
If a treatment containing formaldehyde is used, hair will stay straight and relaxed for a few months.
Formaldehyde is used to dissolve the chemical bonds in hair and restructure them. It gives straighteners a lasting effect.
If a non-formaldehyde treatment is used, it should relax the hair some and help lessen the frizz.

There are two sorts of Keratin treatments that you could do which will allow you to dry your hair naturally.
One is a keratin straightening or smoothing treatment which will straighten your hair and flatten it. A very gentle version of this is the BHAVE Keratin smoothing therapy. For a video of this see:
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1u_FjONJhaI
The other treatment that you could consider is a Replicine™ Functional Keratin® Hair Rescue Treatment. This treatment doesn’t straighten hair but helps to restore and repair dry, chemically damaged hair back to a healthy, shiny state. There are two brands that are selling this type of in-salon treatment. They are Keraplast and BHAVE.

  55. Laurel on

Hi have read your posts and have been researching keratin treatments. I have very thick, very coarse and very dry, red curly hair. I want to keep my curls, but would love more managable hair. I live in NH and there is not much for stylists nor products. Is there a way I can buy the Replicine Function Keratin System or Keraplast Hair Rescue?
It seams that this would be the way to go, but it seems hard to find.
    Thank you for the help!

    • Keratin Questions on

      Hi Laurel,
The Keraplast Hair Rescue is a great keratin treatment. It is an intensive repair conditioner that helps to restore dry, frizzy, chemically damaged hair back to a healthy, shiny state.
It will help to smooth hair but does not straighten it unless a flat iron is used after the treatment so your curls will stay intact.
We will contact you directly to assist you in getting this treatment.

  56. Beverly Tunstall on

Cant seem to find a salon in the South Florida area(my zip is 33026) that gives the treatment…I get the Chi Enviro Smoothing Treatments at JC Penny’s salon… every 3 to 4 months and it seems the 450 degrees flat irons my stylist uses to bond the keratin to my hair is a bit damaging…..Hair is in fair condition but seems to be thinning toward the ends and stylist want to keep trimming and only uses the Chi enviro Smoothing Mask for intense treatment and it doesnt seem to have a lasting effect. I am trying to continue to grow my hair out and she keeps trimming.

    • Keratin Questions on

      Hi Beverly,
The Hair Rescue treatment is not a straightening/smoothing treatment. It is an intensive repair treatment that helps to restore dry, frizzy, chemically damaged hair back to a healthy, shiny state.
We will contact you directly to assist you in finding a salon near you that will do the Hair Rescue treatment.

  58. Maida on

Hi there, I have fine Afro hair that has been lightly relaxed – children’s perm – to release the tight curls, while this makes it more manageable it has resulted in dull, weak frizzy hair. I’m looking for something that will bring back a bit of shine, and perhaps tame the frizz to wavy curls I can leave out. Is your product something that could help and if so do you know a salon that can do the treatment in London uk? Or anywhere in uk.. Please help!
